Estimating the p-variation index of a sample function: An application to financial data set

چکیده
In this paper we apply a real analysis approach to test continuous time stochastic models of financial mathematics. Specifically, fractal dimension estimation methods are applied to statistical analysis of continuous time stochastic processes. To estimate a roughness of a sample function we modify a box-counting method typically used in estimating fractal dimension of a graph of a function. Here the roughness of a function f is defined as the infimum of numbers p > 0 such that f has bounded pvariation, which we call the p-variation index of f . The method is also tested on estimating the exponent α ∈ [1, 2] of a simulated symmetric α-stable process, and on estimating the Hurst exponent H ∈ (0, 1) of a simulated fractional Brownian motion.

Estimating provincial Capital Stock in Iran Economy
Investment and capital stock variables are considered as critical data requirements in economic policy making. In this context, having access to the statistics and performance of these variables is regarded as one of the requirements in economic planning. It will be more important especially at levels beyond the national level such as provincial level at which the data are not produced by na...
متن کاملMonetary Policy Reaction Functions in Iran: An Extended Kalman Filter Approach
Estimates of instrumental rules can be utilized to describe central bank's behavior and monetary policy stance. In the last decade, considerable attention has been given to time-varying parameter (TVP) specification of monetary policy rules. Constant-parameter reaction functions likely ignore the impact of model uncertainty, shifting preferences and nonlinearities of policymaker's choices. This...
متن کاملESTIMATING THE MEAN OF INVERSE GAUSSIAN DISTRIB WTION WITH KNOWN COEFFICIENT OF VARIATION UNDER ENTROPY LOSS
An estimation problem of the mean µ of an inverse Gaussian distribution IG(µ, C µ) with known coefficient of variation c is treated as a decision problem with entropy loss function. A class of Bayes estimators is constructed, and shown to include MRSE estimator as its closure. Two important members of this class can easily be computed using continued fractions
